一豆両断 MAME IAI
A downloadable game for Windows
Made for DTJ36
Slice the beans. Send them back. Drive the Oni away.
A fast-paced, one-stroke action game inspired by Setsubun, iaijutsu, sumi-e ink painting, and Japanese folklore.
On Setsubun night, the Oni stole the village's lucky beans.
Now they're throwing them back at you.
Your answer?
“Throw one. Get two back.”
Draw a single slash through the incoming beans, split them in two, and send the pieces flying back at the Oni.
Defeat every Oni and drive them out of the village.
鬼は外! — ONI OUT!
HOW TO PLAY
HOLD → DRAG → RELEASE
Use your mouse or touchscreen to draw a straight slash.
Cut through approaching beans before they cross the red danger line.
PERFECT
Cut close to the center of a bean.
The bean splits into two returning halves.
Each half deals 1 damage, for up to 2 damage per bean.
GOOD
An off-center cut sends one half back toward the Oni.
A GOOD slash deals 1 damage.
GRAZE
A shallow cut destroys the bean, but deals no damage to the Oni.
MISS
If a bean reaches the danger line, you lose one Fortune (福).
You begin with:
福 × 3
Lose all three and the game is over.
There is no time limit.
Defeat the final Oni to win.
MASTER THE BLADE
Hold your slash briefly to slow incoming beans for a short moment.
Use this chance to read difficult attacks, then release a precise slash.
The slow-motion effect has a cooldown, so timing matters.
A single slash can also cut multiple aligned beans at once.
Chain successful cuts together to build your COMBO and increase your score.

THEME — BEANS
Made for Devs That Jam 36-hour Challenge #30.
The theme is:
BEANS
Beans are not just collectibles or decoration.
They are the core of the entire combat system.
The Oni throw beans at the player.
The player cuts them with iaijutsu.
The pieces become the player's counterattack.
The concept is inspired by Setsubun, a traditional Japanese event where roasted soybeans are thrown while saying:
「鬼は外、福は内!」 “Oni out! Fortune in!”
In 一豆両断 — MAME IAI, that tradition becomes a sword duel:
The Oni throw the beans. You send them back.
CONTROLS
Mouse / Touch
Hold → Drag → Release — Slash
Hold briefly — Slow incoming beans
Keyboard
ESC — Pause / Resume
ENTER — Continue / Resume / Retry when available
Other
Speaker icon — Mute / Unmute
The game automatically pauses when the window loses focus.
Mobile devices are intended to be played in landscape orientation.
